Taxi driver assaulted, robbed

Police have charged a man in relation to a robbery that occurred in Halifax earlier today.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. police responded to a robbery of a taxi driver that had just occurred in the 200 block of Lacewood Drive. The passenger in the taxi assaulted the driver, took a quantity of cash and then fled the taxi on foot. The suspect was located in another taxi leaving the area. Officers stopped the taxi and the suspect once again fled on foot. Officers arrested the suspect after a brief foot pursuit.

Modou Marong, 30, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of robbery and resisting arrest.
