Taxi driver charged with sex assault

Police have charged a taxi driver in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Halifax earlier this year.

Police received a report of a sexual assault that occurred on January 7. A taxi driver picked up a fare at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. During the drive to Halifax, he sexually assaulted the woman who was not known to him.

On February 24, investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigation Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect in Halifax without incident.

Franco Felice Mahemud, 48, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face one count of sexual assault.
