Taylor Swift-Themed Dance Party Takes Halifax By Storm

A Taylor-Swift-themed dance party was recently held at The Dome nightclub in Halifax. Over four hours, the DJ played the superstar’s top hits as dedicated “Swifties” (the nickname for Taylor Swift fans) sang and danced the night away. The event was organised by Toronto-based TSwift Dance Party Canada, who’ve been successfully hosting numerous themed-parties across the nation over the past year.

Dream nightlife for Swifties

“We love Taylor Swift, I have since I was five,” said party-goer, Alyssa Fulop, in attendance with her best friend, Elizabeth Finley. It was the pair’s fourth Taylor Swift dance party, and they say the parties have become more popular in Halifax since last July when the inaugural event was held at the Marquee Ballroom. “The energy there was so great,” Fulop said. “It was only women and only a few people knew about it. Now that she’s getting more popular, more people are going because it’s a party with a big name like Taylor Swift.”

Halifax tour date? Unlikely, according to fans

Taylor Swift recently announced American dates for her upcoming Eras Tours, however, although fans at the Dome are excited for Canadian dates, they’re sceptical that the superstar will come to Halifax. “There’s not a big enough stadium here,” said Shea Allen at the party. Scotiabank Centre in Halifax fits only 10,500 people, whereas Taylor Swift played to an enormous crowd of over 50,000 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto in 2018. “I think there’s demand for almost any artist to come,” said Rheanna Casey. “In the end, they just don’t. They only stick to the big cities”.

Fortunately, Halifax still offers excellent nightlife for those looking for a memorable evening. For example, gambling is a fun activity that can also strengthen critical thinking and problem solving skills. Casino Nova Scotia, in particular, is a popular local entertainment complex with 550 slot machines, and eight poker tables. Alternatively, gambling online is a fun alternative that lets people play to win from the comfort of their own homes. Canadian gambling sites like Jackpot City and PlayOJO offer a wide variety of games and generous bonuses.

Humble beginnings

Miri Makin and Victoria Morton initially launched TSwift Dance Party Canada as a passion project, which met the need they were tired of waiting for someone else to fulfil. “Eventually, we just decided we’ll do it ourselves,” said Makin. “They’re an opportunity to go out with your friends, make core memories, dancing and singing to Taylor Swift without caring about what anyone thinks about you.” Their first event in Toronto sold out in seconds. “As soon as [tickets] went live they were sold out,” said Makin. “Our group chat just exploded, we started messaging each other being like, ‘what happened? Was there a glitch?’”

TSwift Dance Party Canada successfully organised as many as 40 events across Canada in 2022. And, with an increasing number of Canadian fans desperate for the chance to gather and listen to their favourite artist, many more parties are planned for the year ahead.
