teaching my preschooler to tie shoes? not quite yet. here’s what we do instead.

Things that we think are unimportant or “silly” mean so much to little ones. I have to remember that they do sweat the seemingly small stuff because it’s HUGE stuff for them. And for my four year old? Tying up laces all by himself? It’s a biggie.

Don’t mind the dirty sneaks…   😉

While my little boy can do a fantastic job of threading laces through the eyelets, actually tying them is a little ways away. The average age to learn is about 5-6 years old. But what happens when you have pretty big feet for your age and your really cool pair of white kicks have laces? Well, instead of mama tying up his shoes in front of his friends at school, we have U-Lace that converted his sneakers into slip-ons.

U-Lace can create millions (trillions?) of designs for your sneaks and what’s interesting about them is that they’re not one long lace – they’re short stretchy single segments.  Ha! Say that 5 times fast.

Once I finished lacing up Aidan’s sneakers in the colors he wanted he was able to easily slip them on. This is priceless when we’re getting ready for school in the morning – he can put on his own shoes in no time at all.   If it’s hard to picture exactly how these work, take a peek at the video below:

A package of U-Lace is $8.99 and contains 16 U-Lace Segments and 2 20” top laces. Since most shoes contain 8 sets of eyelets, a package of U-Lace is enough to lace up one pair of shoes in either a solid color – or in multi-colors, with a multi-pack.  They’re available worldwide and also online at the U-Lace webstore. Make sure you join them on facebook to keep up to date with sales and discounts!
