RCMP have received Fraud complaints where people are receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be with “Windows Service Centre” who states the resident has a virus on their computer.
The person claiming to be with “Windows Service Centre” attempts to acquire information from the caller and gain access to a person’s computer and in some cases their hard drive is erased. It is unclear at this time how much information is acquired but personal information may be obtained from the computer.
The RCMP is reminding the public not to give out any personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501 or www.phonebusters.com.
