Tenants evacuated after suspicious motel fire

The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in solving a suspicious fire at Windsor’s Downeast Motel.

On September 30, at approximately 10:45 p.m., West Hants District RCMP and fire services responded to an active blaze at 4212 Hwy. 1. Upon arrival, officers found the Downeast Motel engulfed; they helped evacuate multiple long-term tenants were evacuated and the scene was secured.

There were no injuries; all tenants are safe and have temporary accommodations; however, the 35-unit structure incurred extensive damage.

RCMP officers held the scene overnight, as the fire is considered suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing and being assisted by the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall’s Office.
