The 11th annual Nocturne: Art at Night is this Saturday, October 13th from 6 p.m. – midnight

For this year’s festival, Nocturne has partnered with the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective (ACC-CCA) in our search for a curator.

Nocturne’s Curator not only develops the festival’s theme, but also organizes our Anchor projects in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth. For Nocturne 2018, these projects are presented by the ACC.

This year our curator is Raven Davis. Raven Davis is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, performer, human rights speaker/advocate and community facilitator from the Anishinaabek Nation in Manitoba.

In addition, the ACC-CCA is hosting their National Gathering of Indigenous Artists and curators in Halifax from October 10th – 13th, Nocturne will be the exclamation point on a week’s worth of impactful programming hosted by the collective.

Nocturne has also collaborated with Mabelle Arts (Toronto) to bring Welcome To This Place to Halifax. Working with locally based artist Eryn Foster, this project has produced a series of workshops offered to newcomers to our city/province led by artists Charley Young and Carrie Allison.

On the night of Nocturne all the participants will gather at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning in Dartmouth and embark on a tour of Nocturne supported by Nocturne volunteers as guides and ISANS volunteers as translators and support.

Nocturne is also thrilled to collaborate with People. Places. Things. to coincide with the launch of their brand new community engagement app. The app was developed right here in Halifax by PPT Labs Inc.

In short, People. Places. Things. allows users stick, capture, and share short videos of the people, places and things they care about for others to discover locally… like their favourite Nocturne projects!
