The Amazing Race – The Ankle Pain in Spain

chippendales

The Chippendales are in a good position to win the whole thing.

Team Twinnie kicked off this leg of the race, with instructions to head to Barcelona by air, then to a nearby island by ferry. Since the boats weren’t leaving until evening, the top three teams – Twinnies, Chippendales and Texas – spent the day relaxing at the beach. Luckily for Josh and Brent, that gave them a chance to catch up for the first time in days.

The teams were in charge of driving themselves, which I always love. There’s always a moron who can’t drive a stick and when someone gets lost its their own fault rather than the cab driver’s. This season the dummies were Team Twinnie – one of them was supposed to learn to drive a stick before going on the race, but she obviously didn’t try very hard to master it. They fell behind their “alliance” – though the idea of those three still sticking together at this point seems pretty dumb.

Roadblock: Hot Shots

beekmans For the Roadblock, one team member had to return twenty tennis balls shot at them by a machine. Trey finished first, and Ja(y)mes (they are one person to me) did fine as well. Team Twinnies’ driving troubles allowed Josh and Brent the chance to move into third place, but they made the stupid mistake of letting Josh attempt the challenge. He had a swollen, injured ankle and immediately started to fret and sweat. Josh had only returned a few and was taking a break when the twins arrived.

Josh is kind of the worst, but I just know I’d like him in real life. He’s adorable, and he tried real hard, and he made funny noises. I was glad he finished ahead of Nadiya, even if it was only by a bit.

The Cave

“This is like, nature.” Someone actually said that when the Chippendales and Team Texas were searching a cave for the sound of music. I was disappointed it wasn’t Mumford and Sons, but the music was lovely.

Detour: Spin It Or Bull It

In “Spin It”, teams would have to repair an old, large windmill. In “Bull It”, teams would have to pretend to be bulls and race around an arena hitting targets. The latter option sounded much easier, and the more photogenic challenge – always a sign that it’s the one producers want people to go for.

trey and lexie

The Chippendales, who reminded us of their familiarity with construction worker outfits, decided to repair the windmill. Meanwhile, Trey and Lexi broke off from their BFFs and went for the bull challenge. It was hilarious, but when it was time to hit the bulls eye and launch the matador into the air, they ran right into it, knocked it over, and Lexie cut her finger. I don’t know how bad that cut was, but there was a hell of a lot of crying and whining and not enough visible blood to warrant it.

While Lexie cried, the Chippendales finished the Detour. For their second try, Trey and Lexie switched spots and they did it correctly.

I thought it looked like the Chippendales would surely arrive at the pit stop first, but Trey and Lexie beat them. They came in first and second places.

twinnie The Beekman Boys decided to head for the windmills as well, as did the twins. They arrived almost at the same time, but the Beekman Boys were in better spirits than the twins.

I was really, really rooting for Josh and Brent here. They were more in their element than most of the other challenges, and the twins were bickering a lot. This would have been a good time for them to use the Fast Forward they wasted on that time zone challenge.

And indeed, Josh and Brent managed to finish ahead of the twins and arrived at the pit stop in third place! Yay! I know these guys don’t deserve the win and stuff, but I love a good underdog.

“I can’t believe the gimpy guys did this,” said one twin. Um, what? They said a lot of questionable things this episode. I really, really dislike them. Unfortunately, I was pretty sure it would be a non-elimination. It was, and so Team Twinnie is still in it. Ugh. I dislike them so. I hope they can’t do their Speed Bump. I hope they have to drive EVERYWHERE.

HEY CANADA. Oh my god. They’re doing an Amazing Race Canada. I MUST be on it. Excuse me, I need to start storyboarding my audition tape and interviewing potential teammates.
