Today, the city of Halifax and the Mi’kmaq community came together at the Cornwallis statue in Halifax. A Facebook group originally called on the toppling of the statue, calling on supporters to come out and witness the event, after calls to remove the statue were voted down by city council.
A last minute compromise was reached as the statue now stands under a black tarp until a permanent solution can be reached.
Although a mostly peaceful event, several confrontations did occur. Mostly verbal, confrontations were observed by HRP officers, who were quick to intervene when things began to escalate.
