The Halifax Music Co-Op Launches “Crescendo” Online Community for local Nova Scotai Artists

The Halifax Music Co-Op (‘The HMC’) — a local non-profit focused on making music and music education accessible to everyone — is proud to announce the launch of a new online community to strengthen local music scenes in Nova Scotia.

Crescendo (crescendonova.com) is designed to meet growing demand among emerging artists for support and promotion, while also offering Halifax’s new all-ages performance venue to artists — at a time when such spaces are harder than ever to access in the city.

Crescendo will:

  • Work with artists, at no cost, to develop online profiles at crescendonova.comfeaturing music releases, events and other info — profiles that will then be promoted across Crescendo and the HMC’s social media channels.
  • Offer the HMC Space on Barrington street (150 person capacity) for artists to host all-ages concerts on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Host free event listings for any music events across the province.

“Halifax and Nova Scotia have some of the most exciting young musical talent in Canada, but what we hear from the musicians we work with at the HMC is that many struggle to get their music heard,” says John Bogardus, HMC music director. “Crescendo offers a new, no-cost platform for all musical artists — but particularly those starting out in their pursuits — to have profile online, to build an audience and to have an accessible performance space in which to bring their music to life.”

Launched earlier this month, the Crescendo website is now live and available for artists to use. Learn more at crescendonova.com

Crescendo is the latest chapter in HMC’s service as a hub of music and music education in Halifax, accessible to everyone regardless of their background, means or skill level. Since its founding in 2012, the HMC has connected hundreds of members with music education and performance opportunities. The organization proudly presents 60+ in-house performances each year, including its popularInventions initiative that pairs local up-and-coming artists with HMC faculty and staff to bring the artists music to life with a full orchestral backing.
