The Office: Meant to be

Yay!!!!

Let me start off by saying, I am so glad that The Office didn’t wait until a Valentine’s Day episode to put Michael and Holly back together. Also, I am very pleased that they didn’t go the horrible route of never putting them back together at all. That wasn’t likely, but it would have been cruel.

The way Holly was convinced that she was meant to be with Michael was perfect. We knew Michael would pester her and go to great lengths to make her see it, so the fact that it was unintentional made it so much more touching, but still in a really funny way. She’s like the Michael whisperer. Watching the other two people in the office who are closest to Michael (Erin and Dwight) understand that before Holly did was great.

Michael can often be an unlikable character, but throughout the series he’s had moments that soften him and save him from becoming a villain. The episode where he showed up at Pam’s art show and bought a painting is one that stands out for me, and everything he’s done involving Holly has also shown off that sensitive side.

As much as I love how Erin hates Holly, it was nice to see her silently accept Michael and Holly kissing on the rooftop. Erin’s character has really grown on me, and I hope that they’ll be able to channel this side of her character in another direction next season. (Perhaps a grudge against Gabe?)

Speaking of Gabe, nothing brings joy to my heart like seeing absolutely everyone gang up on him. He’s such a wet blanket, so it makes it a lot easier to swallow than when people would gang up on poor Toby. I always liked how Michael inexplicably hated Toby, but I always felt uncomfortable if anyone else got on board. Everyone can hate Gabe, though, and I’m fine with it.

What did you think of “The Search”? Are you glad Michael and Holly are back together? Now, check out these standout quotes and moments:

  • Kelly and Ryan got divorced, after secretly marrying a week earlier.
  • “You know what, Ryan? I talked to the other gay guys, and we’re OK with it. It’s fine for you to be married.” – Oscar, after Ryan says he doesn’t want to get married until everyone can get married
  • “Her personality is like a three. Her sense of humor is a two. Her ears are like a seven, and a four. Add it all up and what do you get? 16. And he treats her like she’s a perfect forty.” – Erin
  • Jim abandoning Michael at a gas station after finding out Pam’s mom locked the baby in the car.
  • Michael trying to dine & dash.
  • Creed’s picture on the wall of dine & dashers.
  • Darryl writes his own captions for the Family Circus comics.
