The Office: …on the day of my daughter’s christening

I love episodes of The Office that take the whole Dunder Mifflin crew out of the work environment, and CeCe’s christening was a great way to do that. First of all, it was totally weird that everyone would show up for her christening. Second of all, it was totally awesome because almost no one knew how to appropriately act in church.
Michael showed up at CeCe’s christening doing his impression of The Godfather because he actually thought he was the godfather. Nope. That would be a lovely couple Pam met through Mommy and Me class. Michael, of course, was totally insulted. He didn’t stay sullen for long, though, because before you knew it he was totally feeling the whole Jesus thing. In particular, he was impressed by a group of young Christians who were going to Mexico to build a school.
The minister accidentally invited the entire congregation to the reception that was supposed to be small and intimate, so everyone spent the whole thing complaining. Then when everyone went to see the school-building crew off, Michael decided to tag along. Part of it was probably because he wanted people to clap and cheer for him, and part of it was probably because he wanted to be part of something like that. Then when Erin praised Michael (amidst comments from everyone else that he was being ridiculous), Andy joined too. Poor Andy, he’ll do anything to impress that girl.
In the church itself there was still a lot to laugh at. Poor Jim had tried to change CeCe but got poo all over her white dress, so she had to be christened in a T-shirt. Then he lost her and wrongfully accused Angela of stealing her. Although really, wouldn’t you have thought the same? Ryan kept trying to hook up to the church’s wireless signal, Toby couldn’t bring himself to go inside, and Dwight kept trying to sell paper.
After about 5 minutes on the bus, Michael started to totally freak out. He and Andy bailed on the mission and poor Erin had to come pick them up. And some poor kid who bailed with them.
Here’s what else I loved:
  • The cold open where Pam delivered a lecture on germs, Dwight said germs make you stronger, and then everyone started sneezing on him.
  • Andy saying that the Nard-dog wants Nard-pups.
  • “I don’t even know how to say this, but CeCe is turning out to be a little b-i-t-c-h.” – Michael
  • “This is happening.” – Jim, when he shows up with CeCe in a T-shirt
  • “I would run to Mexico, if that’s where the sandwiches were.” – Stanley
  • “Yeah, well that’s just a pick-up scene.” – Michael, on Oscar volunteering at a clinic once a week
  • “I think it’s really cool Michael. I wish I had a job that I could just leave.” – Erin
  • “Why you always gotta be so mean to me?” – Toby, reminding me very much of Charlie Brown, when he finally enters the church
  • “Go save the world, we’ll keep an eye on America for you.” – Michael
  • “Wait for me…don’t tell my parents.” – The kid who got off the bus with Michael and Andy
