Thirty-six motorists charged on long weekend

Halifax District RCMP continues to charge motorists who refuse to buckle up and stop using their cell phone while driving.

During the long weekend, Halifax District RCMP and RCMP Southeast Traffic Services charged 25 drivers for failing to wear a seat belt and 11 drivers for using their phone while driving. During a one hour traffic initiative on Bissett Rd. in Cole Harbour on Saturday resulted in 12 of the seatbelt tickets being issued to drivers who failed to buckle up.

“Once you get in your vehicle, buckle up and put your phone in a safe place,” say’s Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP. “Turn your ringer off to avoid the temptation of checking your messages or talking on your phone.”

Halifax District RCMP will continue to host roadside meet and greets with motorists who use their cell phones and refuse to buckle up while driving.
