Three banned from owning animals for 10 years after pleading guilty to Animal Cruelty

Nova Scotia (Thursday June 19, 2014) ––Three individuals plead guilty to one count of Animal Cruelty and each are banned from owning animals for 10 years.
The Nova Scotia SPCA charged three individuals with one count of Animal Cruelty under the Animal Protection Act; confining an animal to an enclosure or area with inadequate space, unsanitary conditions, inadequate ventilation or without providing an opportunity for exercise so as to significantly impair the animal’s health or well-being on April 3, 2014.
125 cats were removed from a Dartmouth property by Nova Scotia SPCA Cruelty Investigators in March 2014. The cats were brought to the Provincial Animal Shelter, Kings County branch shelter, Colchester County branch shelter and Pictou County branch shelter.
The shelters estimate that the costs of this intake reached over $15,000.00 within the first few weeks. Several cats remain in the care of the Nova Scotia SPCA.
The Nova Scotia SPCA is a No Kill organization empowered to enforce the Animal Protection Act.
