Police have charged three drivers for driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit earlier today in Dartmouth.

At 11:05 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 outbound just after the Portland Street off-ramp. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 132 km/h in a 80 km/h zone.  A 33-year-old man from Timberlea was charged for stunting in this incident.

At 11:55 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 inbound by the Victoria Road exit. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.  A 66-year-old man from Middle Sackville was charged for stunting in this incident.

At 1:46 p.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 outbound by the Main Street off ramp. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 148 km/h in a 80 km/h zone.  A 66-year-old man from Middle Sackville was charged for stunting in this incident

All three drivers were charged for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, they were suspended from driving for one week and their vehicles were seized and towed

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
