Three Lower Sackville men arrested in kidnapping case
May 14, 2014

Police have arrested three men in relation to an incident where a 19-year-old man was forced into a vehicle on Metropolitan Drive, Lower Sackville on Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Halifax RCMP responded to a break and enter incident in progress at a residence on Sackville Drive. Upon arrival at the scene, information was received from witnesses that a vehicle had just left the area. The break and enter was unsuccessful.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, Windsor RCMP contacted Lower Sackville RCMP to advise they had a man in custody for the attempted break and enter reported earlier in the day.

Preliminary investigation revealed that earlier in the day, a 19-year-old man had been forced into a vehicle by three men and ordered to break into a home in Lower Sackville. The three men were threatening violence if the suspect did not comply. The break and enter was interrupted by a witness. The victim and the three men then traveled to Windsor where the victim agreed to robbing a store. Once the victim entered the store, he told the clerk to call police indicating that he had been coerced into committing a crime involving a business.

The investigation, led by the RCMP-HRP General Investigation Section has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man at his Lower Sackville residence on Monday evening and 19-year-old man in Lower Sackville at approximately 1 p.m. yesterday, both without incident. The last man, an 18-year-old suspect from Lower Sackville, turned himself in to police yesterday.

Brandon Charles Murphy, 18, Nicholas Tyler White, 19 and Brandon Lee Barneau, 19, all from Lower Sackville remain in custody and are facing a multitude of charges including kidnapping, Robbery, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Break and Enter. The victim was not charged. This was not a random act and the victim and suspects were known to each other. The investigation is continuing.
