Investigators in the Financial Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged three men and one woman with fraud charges after an incident in Halifax yesterday.
On December 6 at 2:15 p.m., staff at the Chebucto Inn in Halifax phoned police in relation to a questionable credit card transaction and suspicious activity by four people who were staying there. One man had presented a credit card to the front desk staff who, when verifying the card, learned it was counterfeit.
Through the course of the investigation, police arrested the four people and seized counterfeit credit cards, false identification and credit card making equipment.
Twenty-year-old Jaleel Shyheem Harris, 18-year-old Tamara Courtney, 24-year-old Hawold Segbe Attie-Eliamon, all from Montreal, and 20-year-old Jonathan Scott from the Unites States each face charges of fraudulently obtaining lodging, possession of equipment to make a credit card, and four counts of possession of a counterfeit credit card. Courtney faces an additional charge of identity fraud.
All four are currently being held in custody and are scheduled to attend Halifax Provincial Court today to answer to the charges.
