Here is the press release in all it's glory.
The company will premiere exciting new work in an evening of passionate flamenco dance and music, followed by a post-performance dance party for those who wish to keep the flame burning. This unique perennial mid-winter event offers Haligonians an authentic taste of Spain. It is well-known as an exhilarating experience, anticipated every year by many fans.
This special evening of live music and dance, is dedicated to lovers of the passionate art of flamenco, setting the tone for a romantic whirlwind to the feverish heat of Spain. "The show is definitely taking a new direction from the work I have presented until now" says Maria Osende, principal dancer and choreographer, "I am currently working on a piece, a Seguiriya, for myself and my three dancers, Francesca, Michelle and Colleen, which is strongly inspired in images from Garcia Lorca's female characters.
I guess one could say the show will have a stronger theatrical component." This is the first time Flamenco Valentine will be held at Casino Nova Scotia, having outgrown the intimate space at FRED, cafe and art space in North End Halifax. It was time for a change. "Although we loved performing at FRED," says Maria, "It was time to move on. Our shows got bigger with the years and both the stage and audience capacity at FRED became just too small.
Some of the great advantages of the Schooner Room will be, for us, a bigger and proper stage. For the audience: assigned seating for the first time, either tables or row seating and a better view in general. We have been able to add a post-performance dance party, which we have never done before.
Because of the larger capacity and the Casino's generous sponsorship we have also been able to break down our prices offering three price options; $32, $28 and $24 as well as a choice between table or row seating
The company will present a full cast with nine artists on stage: Maria Osende, principal dancer and artistic director will be joined by dancers Francesca Nardi, Michelle Raiche-Marsden and Colleen Power, guitarist Daniel MacNeil, vocalists Enrique Rojo "el Henry" and Joyce Saunder, violinist Gina Burgess and percussionist Ian McMillan.
Doors open at 7:15pm with the performance beginning at 8:00pm followed by a dance party. Tickets are on sale now through Ticket Atlantic at (902) 451 1221 \Toll free: (Canada only) 1-877-451-1221,
