Tips On Investing In Timeless Jewelry

When it comes to purchasing costume jewelry you can wing it as best because the price points are pretty low, but when it comes to choosing classic pieces you want to make sure you’re making the right choice.
But even our girl Kate Middleton knows the importance of simple classic jewelry pieces.
With a higher price point it can feel daunting, but the important thing to remember is that these pieces will stand the test of time, and if you amortize the cost of the piece across how often it will be worn you might notice that per-where the piece actually costs less than your morning coffee.
If you’ve been thinking about adding a classic piece to your collection I’ve put together some tips to guide you through your purchase, and narrow down your search.

Think about what jewelry pieces you wear most often.  If you never wear earrings say because you take a lot of calls at work, and they just get in the way it’s probably best that you don’t spend big bucks on them. In this case you might want to consider a necklace and/or bracelet instead.  Maybe it’s the English Major in me, but I love this “Italic Diamond Tennis Bracelet”, it’s simple but the subtle slanted stones make it a much more interesting piece.
Gold, Silver, Or White Gold.  Usually people are pretty firm about their feelings on whether they where gold, silver, or white gold. People tend to stick to one so that their pieces all match each other. In most recent years mixing metals has become much more trendy, so you don’t really need to worry about them all matching, but making a choice does help to narrow down your search. I love these “Day to Night Gemstone and Diamond” drop earrings with their yellow stones in the middle as they invite the playfulness of adding other gold pieces as well.

Consider the Purpose of the Piece. It’s important to think about your style, and where you’ll be wearing the piece. A beautiful necklace or a pair of earrings can instantly dress up any look, so if you know there’s a lot of events you need to attend this year; think about what you’d be wearing and correspond your jewelry to the outfit. Drop earrings (like the ones above) are great for evening wear when you know you’ll probably be wearing your hair up. If you’re looking for a set to wear out to events dangle earrings or drop earrings would be a great choice. Conversely if you want to wear your earrings everyday a stud or post earring like these circular stud earrings might be a better choice because they can literally be worn with anything and anywhere.

Pick Your Favorite Feature. Adding sparkle will invariably draw attention to what ever area it is that you are wearing the item. So for instance, if you like accentuating your neckline or you wear a lot of open neck dresses you might want to consider wearing a beautiful necklace in a shorter length to help draw attention upward.  Conversely if you’re a very animated person and you use your hands a lot when you talk you might want to consider wearing a ring.

Narrow Down a Shape. Make sure to note whether you favor a square, circle, oval etc. This one is very important especially if you’re considering (making suggestions for) something like an engagement or anniversary ring. People are usually pretty passionate about whether they favor a circle or a square diamond, but it’s important to be sure you’ll still like this shape 5, 10 years down the road. A cushion diamond is beautiful, and rounds off the square shape slightly, so if you’re kind of stuck in between this Diamond Bridal Setis for you.

Consider Size. You might like to think you want a huge diamond, but if you have very small hands or very thin fingers this type of ring, but be a bit too much. Much like men and their TV’s some might disagree and say that it’s impossible for them to be too big, but it is definitely something to consider if you want it to look tasteful. If you liked the set above, but it’s too large for your small frame you could consider the this instead.

If you’re in the market for some classic pieces dearest blog reader I hope this post helped you. Making a large purchase can seem kind of intimidating, but it’s a great investment. I love combining my classic jewelry pieces with more trendy pieces for a great high-low look that doesn’t break the bank. I like the idea of having at least a few classic pieces, part of me is still kind of traditional and I think it’d like to pass these pieces on to a daughter or niece someday.
As kids my sister and I would rummage through my mother’s jewelry box (okay maybe we still do this), and try EVERYTHING on and call dips on pieces she could give us when I got older. I think there’s something endearing about wearing a ring I know my father gave my mother at the heart of their relationship. You’d be hard pressed to do the same with a necklace from Forever 21, I mean those pieces clearly have their place in my life, and I love them, but it’s just not the same.
Thanks so much for reading dearest blog reader!
