Competing against some of the best surfers in the world, Team Canada’s seven surfers were unable to advance past Round 1 at the 2010 ISA World Surfing Games in Peru.
They will now get a second chance to advance in the repercharge side of the contest.
On Thursday, Nova Scotia’s Janine Strickland and Julie Baldwin Forbes went head-to-head in a repercharge heat that featured powerful 8-10-foot waves. They ended up finishing first and second respectively.
Thursday’s swell was the biggest of the season so far at “Senoritas y Caballeros” in Punta Hermosa, site of the contest. Wave faces on the outer breaks were over 30 feet.
Punta Hermosa is located about 42 kilometers from Lima.
Canada’s seven surfers include: Logan Landry, Jacob Albury, Myles Baldwin and Ben Woodford in the Men’s Open, Julie Baldwin Forbes and Janine Isabella Strickland in the Women’s Open, and Brian Villeneuve in the Longboard division.
The team is being managed by Canadian Surfing Association president John Fluke.
