Traffic Advisory: Chase the Ace fundraiser, Inverness, N.S.

As thousands of participants prepare to travel to Inverness for this weekend’s Chase the Ace fundraiser, Inverness District RCMP wishes to provide the following traffic instructions and road safety tips for the event.

The Chase the Ace fundraiser typically results in a large increase in motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the Inverness area. To ensure that police and emergency vehicles have complete access during the event, RCMP asks that participants observe the following:

Parking

The following parking restrictions will be in effect on Saturday, September 12 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Violations will be enforced and vehicles will be towed at the expense of the owner.

-Highway 19 – As posted (North of Inverness on the west side of highway)

-Highway 19 – From Quincy Street to Maple Street (west side of highway only)

-Forest Street – From Highway 19 to the Inverness Arena (south side of street only)

-Maple Street – From Highway 19 to the Inverness Raceway (South side of Street only)

-Free parking is available at Inverness Academy

-Paid parking is available at the Inverness Raceway

Road safety tips

-Expect traffic slow downs on the Cabot Trail, Highway 105 and Highway 19

-Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate road routes, such as:

-Highway 252 (Whycocomagh)
-Highway 395
-Cabot Trail

-Car pooling is encouraged

-Pay attention and follow the instructions of RCMP members directing traffic

-Never park in such a manner that leaves less than 3 meters of width on the roadway

-Check the weekend weather forecast and plan your trip accordingly

Impaired driving and alcohol consumption

Inverness District RCMP reminds all motorists that driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a crime. Officers will be actively looking for impaired drivers, so if you choose to drink, don’t drive and arrange for an alternate way home. Additionally, citizens are reminded that consuming alcohol in public, non-licensed areas is an offence that can result in a $463.95 fine.
