Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents there will be rolling street closures and some traffic delays this Friday, Sept. 25, as members of Avalon Sexual Assault Centre, Hollaback! Halifax and their supporters march through downtown Halifax to protest cat calls, street harassment and sexualized violence.
The group will gather at Victoria Park at 6 p.m.
and proceed east on Spring Garden Road, north on Brunswick Street, west on Sackville Street, northwest on Bell Road, north on Ahern Avenue, east on Cogswell Street and north on Gottingen Street, ending at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre at about 8 p.m.
Halifax Regional Police will be on hand throughout the walk to assist with traffic control. Motorists should expect some delays in the area and are advised to find alternative routes, if possible. Please drive carefully and keep an eye out for participants marching in the streets.
The purpose of the Rolling Revolution event is to show support for victims and survivors of street harassment and sexualized violence and to reclaim spaces of reported street violence. For more information on the event, please visit www.avaloncentre.ca.
