Traffic stop leads to arrest of man wanted on Canada wide warrant and weapons charges

A man and a woman both face weapons charges after March 23 traffic stop in Dartmouth.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on March 23, members of the East Quick Response Unit, Emergency Response Team and patrol conducted a traffic stop in the 0-100 block of Lahey Road. Police determined the male passenger was wanted on a Canada wide warrant. Both occupants exited the vehicle and the man was arrested without incident for the warrant.

When searching the man, incidental to arrest, police located shotgun shell casings, and when searching the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm.

Thirty-three-year-old Cruz Ricardo Downey from Ontario and 27-year-old Belicia Priscila Bella-Ashe from Dartmouth both face multiple firearms charges. Downey is also charged with several breaches of court orders. Downey and Bella-Ashe are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.
