Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Two men face charges as a result of a traffic stop last week in Halifax.

At approximately 10 a.m. on December 15, members of the Quick Response Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of Larry Uteck Boulevard. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located a quantity of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were arrested at the scene without incident.

Shortly thereafter, officers from the Special Enforcement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, with the assistance of the Quick Response Unit, executed search warrants in two separate units at apartment building on Bedros Lane and Gristmill Court in Halifax. As a result of the searches, a quantity of crack cocaine, MDMA pills and marihuana were seized along with drug paraphernalia and a quantity cash. Officers arrested one man during the search of the unit on Gristmill Court.

A 49-year-old man from Halifax was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. A 20-year-old man, also from Halifax, faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in MDMA and possession for the purpose of trafficking in marihuana. Both men are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial court on February 14 in the morning. The woman was released without charges.
