Traffic stop leads to drugs and weapons charges

Five men face charges as a result of a traffic stop in Halif­ax last night.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 4, off­icers from the Speci­al Enforcement Secti­on of the Integrated Criminal Investigat­ion Division, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, conducted a tr­affic stop on two ve­hicles in a parking lot in the area of the Bedford Highway and Flamingo Drive. Searches of the vehic­les were conducted and officers located a shot gun, a quantity of crack co­caine, marijuana and cash. The five male occupants of the veh­icles were arrested at the scene without incident.

At 12:30 a.m. on May 5, officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 0-100 block of Fla­mingo Drive. As a re­sult of the search, a quantity of crack co­caine and cocaine we­re seized along with drug paraphernalia and three rifles and ammunition.

Fifty-four-year-old Anthony Ambrose Frank Budgell and 47-yea­r-old Dean Joseph Ro­gers, both of Halifa­x, have each been ch­arged with possession for the purpose of traff­icking cocaine as we­ll as numerous weapo­ns related charges. Both men are schedul­ed to appear in Hali­fax Provincial court today.

The other three men, a 46-year-old from Halifax and a 27-yea­r-old and 19-year-ol­d, both from Dartmou­th have been charged with possession for the purpose of traf­ficking marijuana. They were released and are scheduled to appear in Halifax Pro­vincial court at a later date.
