Traffic stop uncovers illegal cannabis and vapes

RCMP release:

RCMP Northeast Traffic Services – Cape Breton has arrested a man for offences under the Cannabis Act after conducting a traffic stop in Irish Cove.

On December 27, an RCMP officer observed a Dodge Ram 1500 travelling 113 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Hwy. 4. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the truck. Through the roadside investigation, the officer learned the driver, a 20-year-old man of New Waterford, was transporting a large quantity of illicit cannabis. The officer safely arrested the driver.

In a subsequent search of the vehicle, which was seized as part of the investigation, the officer seized more than seven kilograms of dried cannabis and 600 cannabis vapes.

The man is facing several charges under the Cannabis Act for possessing illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution. He was released pending an appearance in Sydney Provincial Court on May 5.

The investigation is ongoing.
