Transit Bus Hits Pedestrian

Halifax Regional Police has charged a Metro Transit bus driver following a bus/pedestrian collision this morning in Halifax.
 
At 6:55 a.m., police responded to a bus/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Barrington Street and Spring Garden Road. A 60-year-old woman crossing Barrington Street in a marked crosswalk was hit by a Metro Transit bus turning left from Spring Garden Road onto Barrington Street. She was transported to hospital by EHS with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 62-year-old male bus driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
 
Police remind motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the road and drive defensively. Be particularly mindful at crosswalks and keep a watchful eye for pedestrians. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked and unmarked crosswalks.
