Transit driver, police officer save driver from burning car

At 12:58 a.m., Halifax Regional Police received a report of a single vehicle on its roof and on fire with a driver trapped inside at Upper Water Street / Valour Way Halifax.  A Halifax Transit bus driver and an HRP officer broke a window and pulled the driver out just before the vehicle exploded.  HRM Fire & Emergency Service extinguished the fire.  Officers have confirmed the driver was only occupant.  The driver sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to the Hospital by EHS Paramedics.  

Alcohol and speed are is believed to be factors in the collision.  Investigators from Patrol, Accident Investigation Section and the Forensic Identification Section are conducting the investigation, which is in the early stages.  Impaired driving charges are expected.
