A well attended, special marathon took place at Shubie Park, and its purpose hits a solid note with many, not just in the maritimes, but in across the world.
As part of the Canadian Transplant Association’s goal of awareness and support of the urgent and significance for organ transplants, the Nova Scotian branch focuses on locals who have benefited or will require the life-saving urgency of organ transplants.
This event was the second marathon for the Nova Scotia branch. This brought in more than 50 participants, with the youngest being 2.5 years old! Participants could take on a 1 kilometer, 5 or 10 kilometer stretch through the trails of Shubie Park.
HRFE had an off-duty firefighter on hand for first-aid (which happily wasn’t needed) and whose family also participated in the marathon.
And most importantly, both friends and family, and organ recipients, were also on hand to take part in this event.
More events will take place throughout Nova Scotia, helping to spread the importance of organ donation and the significant need to support those who are about to, or have, undergone the vital surgerie(s) and changes that follow immediately afterwards.
In Nova Scotia, it will soon be assumed that citizens will be organ donars without consent contrary to having to give consent to become a donar. It is expected that this will contribute to a higher success rate within the organ transplant community.
