Truck owner jumps into bed of moving vehicle as it was being stolen, two arrested

Halifax District RCMP arrested two men in a vehicle theft investigation.

Yesterday, at approximately 3:43p.m., police were called to a vehicle theft in progress on Irisweg Dr. in Brookside. Upon arrival, officers learned two men were seen attempting to steal a truck from the driveway of a residence.

As the thieves drove away, the truck owner ran into the bed of the moving vehicle and got into an altercation with the two men. The truck continued down the roadway, narrowly missing a pedestrian. It crashed a short distance later, and both men ran off into a nearby wooded area.

With assistance of a two RCMP police dogs, the men were successfully located and arrested. Both were found to have outstanding province-wide arrest warrants.

Dylan Isaac Paul Nowlan, 25, of Cole Harbour and Joshua Daniel Cockerill, 25, of Dartmouth, are scheduled to appear today in Halifax Provincial Court facing Motor Vehicle Theft and Obstructing a Peace Officer charges. Cockerill is also charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance.
