RCMP release:
Meteghan RCMP has charged a man with multiple offences after he fled from police and drove a vehicle onto a golf course.
On July 24, at approximately 10:10 p.m. a Meteghan RCMP officer was patrolling Hwy. 1 near Church Point when he observed a black pick up truck with no license plate displayed. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not pull over.
The driver, identified by the officer as 32-year-old Zacharie Thibault of Meteghan, continued to travel on Hwy. 1. The officer followed the truck, which was being driven at an increasing rate of speed in a dangerous manner. The driver then turned onto PF Comeau Rd. travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed. Out of concern for public safety, the officer deactivated his lights and sirens and stopped his vehicle. In the distance, the officer observed the truck continue onto a golf course and into a wooded area.
A short time later, with assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services, officers found the truck abandoned near the end of the golf course.
The evidence and information gathered at the scene and through the investigation determined alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Early this morning, July 25, officers located and safely arrested Thibault at a residence in Comeauville.
Zacharie David Jovitt Thibault has been charged with:
- Flight from a Peace Officer
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Mischief
- Failure to Comply with Order (3 counts)
Thibault appeared in Annapolis Provincial Court this afternoon. He was released on conditions, including house arrest. Thibault is scheduled to next appear in Annapolis Provincial Court on August 12 at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Meteghan RCMP with assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
