Twenty years since girl disappeared

Thursday marks the 20th anniversary in the disappearance of 19-year-old Kimberly McAndrew, a cold case which the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.

On August 12, 1989 at 4:20 p.m., McAndrew left the Canadian Tire store at 6203 Quinpool Road in Halifax where she was employed as a cashier.

She was last seen at the Gardenia Flower Shop in Penhorn Mall in Dartmouth where she was identified as having bought a balloon and a rose.

At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing navy ankle-length cotton slacks with pleats and slash pockets in front and one pocket in the back, a white short-sleeved “Esprit” T-shirt with red and green squares, a navy cotton oversize cardigan, and jade green flat slip-on loafers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit at (902) 490-5333. Anonymous tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.

This case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program. A reward of $150,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Kimberly’s disappearance.
