Two ATV drivers arrested for impaired driving in Shelburne

Two drivers, who were both operating ATVs at the time, have recently been arrested by Shelburne RCMP for impaired driving.

On May 25 at 4 p.m., the RCMP responded to a complaint of an impaired driver on Annapolis Rd., near Hwy. 103 in Shelburne. The police vehicle was stopped on the road in an attempt to block the ATV and the police officer opened his door to exit the vehicle. The police officer heard the engine of the ATV revving, realized it was speeding up, and quickly got back into the police car. The ATV then rammed the driver’s door of the police vehicle, then continued on down the road. It pulled into a driveway, at which time the police officer arrested him.

The driver was showing signs of being impaired by alcohol and was taken to Shelburne Detachment for a breath test. His readings were more than twice the legal limit. He was held in custody until sober and is facing charges for the following offences:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Assault on A Police Officer with a Weapon
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Flight from a Peace Officer

The 43-year-old Shelburne man is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on July 24.

On June 4 shortly after 9 p.m., a member of Shelburne RCMP stopped an unregistered ATV on Clements St. in Shelburne. The driver was showing signs of being impaired by alcohol and did a roadside screening test. He failed the test and was taken to Shelburne Detachment for a breath test.

The driver is facing charges of Impaired Operation (by Alcohol) of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation (by Alcohol) of a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Limit Over 80 mg%. In addition, he was served a ticket for Operating an Unregistered Off-Highway-Vehicle.

The driver, a 31-year-old Shelburne man, was released and is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on July 31.
