Two Boards of Inquiry to Begin in Halifax on Nov. 17

Two independent Nova Scotia human rights boards of inquiry will begin Monday, Nov. 17, in Halifax.

In the case of Miles Crawley v. Halifax Regional Water Commission, Mr. Crawley alleges his job with the water commission was terminated after he was targeted by management for disciplinary measures because of his race and/or colour when he was wrongly accused of improper conduct at work.

The water commission denies any discrimination and alleges Mr. Crawley was terminated for employment performance issues.

In the case of Raymond Adekayode v. HRM/Halifax Professional Firefighters, Mr. Adekayode alleges he was discriminated against because of his family status as a biological father when he was denied supplemental benefits during a parental leave after the birth of his child.

Halifax Regional Municipality Firefighters deny any discrimination and claim the collective agreement is not discriminatory.

The Crowley v. Halifax water inquiry is in the Centennial Room, Cambridge Suites, 1583 Brunswick St. Marion Hill is the independent board chair.

The Adekayode v. HRM/Halifax firefighters inquiry is in the Barrington Room, Delta Barrington, 1875 Barrington St. Donald Murray is the independent board chair.

The commission is representing the public interest at the inquiries, which both start at 9:30 a.m. daily.
