Two charged after Long Lake vehicle break-in, car chase

Police have charged a man and a woman in relation to a theft from a vehicle that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

On December 8 at approximately 10:40 a.m. police responded to Long Lake Park in relation to a vehicle break-in. Two suspects broke into a vehicle and stole a purse containing credit cards. The suspects left the area in a vehicle prior to officers arriving on scene.

A short time later, West Division patrol officers attempted to stop a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled from police, but shortly thereafter, officers located it parked on Chelsea Lane in Halifax. Officers arrested the two occupants of the vehicle and recovered some of the stolen property.

Michael Francis, 40, is scheduled to appear In Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:

•             Property damage

•             Theft under $5,000

•             Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

•             Fraud under $5,000

•             Resist arrest

•             Operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner

•             Failing to stop for police

•             Breach of undertaking

Maggie McDowell, 36, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face the following charges:

•             Property damage

•             Theft under $5,000

•             Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

•             Fraud under $5,000

•             Fail to comply with a probation order

•             Breach of release orders
