Two charged with stunting on Dartmouth road

Halifax Regional Police have charged two men in separate incidents with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit in Bedford last Friday.

At approximately 2:10 p.m. members of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Dartmouth Road travelling outbound toward Trunk Highway 7 (Magazine Hill). The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 102 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. members of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Dartmouth Road travelling outbound toward Trunk Highway 7 (Magazine Hill). The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

An 18-year-old Dartmouth man (first incident) and a 50-year-old Halifax man (second incident) were ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, both men were suspended from driving for one week and the vehicles they were driving were seized and towed.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
