Two people face charges after a sensory irritant was discharged in
downtown Halifax.

On May 20 at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers assigned to the Liquor
Enforcement Unit attended a weapons complaint in the 5100 block of
Salter Street. Staff reported that a male had sprayed a sensory irritant
outside and fled on foot. The officers located the suspect walking with
another man near Historic Properties but when officers identified
themselves, the male fled on foot and threw an item away which was
seized and determined to be dog repellant. A brief foot chase took place
but the male was arrested after he tripped trying to jump over a hedge.
During the arrest, the man who was walking with the suspect began
yelling at the officer. The officer identified himself but the man
continued and tried to get between the officer and the suspect. The
second man was also arrested.

A 15-year-old male faces charges of possession of a weapon for a
dangerous purpose and resisting arrest. A 19-year-old man faces charges
of obstructing police. They are both scheduled to appear in court at a
later date.
