Two families harassed by man at bus terminal, one parent assaulted

Police have laid charges in relation to two incidents of criminal harassment that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of man who approached a family while on a Halifax Transit bus, and then followed them when they exited the bus in the 7000 block of Mumford Road. The man approached one of the parents who was holding a young child and made a motion that led the parents to believe he was trying to reach for the child. One of the parents confronted the man and he assaulted the parent before leaving the area.

At approximately 8:55 p.m., officers received a second report of a man following and harassing another family in the same area. The man matched the description of the suspect from the earlier incident, and he threatened to injure the parent if he tried to leave the area with the children.

Officers arrested the suspect in the area without incident at approximately 9 p.m. Tristan Leslie Last, 35, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face the following charges:

  • Criminal harassment (x2)
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
  • Fail to comply with a probation order (x2)
