Two impaired drivers caught in less than 24 hours – Lunenburg County

Shortly before 1 a.m. on October 20, members of Lunenburg District RCMP were conducting a traffic checkpoint in Western Shore.

A 39-year-old male driver from Halifax came through the checkpoint and was given a Roadside Screening Device Test when police noted he was showing signs of being impaired by alcohol. He was issued a seven-day driving suspension due to his blood alcohol level.

Later that evening, near 10:30 p.m., two people were leaving a function in Mahone Bay and accidentally drove their vehicle into a river.  The 29-year-old male driver from Lower Burlington was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then arrested for Impaired Driving. He was taken to Cookville Detachment for a breath test. He was released from custody later that evening and is facing charges of Impaired Driving and Driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80 mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on January 9, 2019.
