Two Men Face Numerous Property Damage Charges

Two men face numerous charges in connection with multiple incidents where property was damaged in the Quinpool Road area early this morning.

At 1:37 a.m., police responded to a complaint of two men spray-painting graffiti in the Quinpool Road area. Upon arrival, officers located and arrest the two men and seized several cans of spray paint. The investigation is on-going, however, at this time 21 separate locations have been identified as being damaged.

The two Halifax men, aged 18 and 19, are currently in custody and are bail hearing is scheduled for later today. Both men are charged with 15 counts of property damage, and the younger man faces an additional charge of misleading police as to his identification.

Spreading graffiti is a crime, and its presence can impact our community’s reputation, property values, and citizens’ sense of pride and safety. Every year HRM pays approximately $300,000 to clean up graffiti. When private businesses are damaged, the cost of cleaning may be passed on to the consumer which results in citizens paying more for items. Graffiti affects everyone.
