Two RCMP releases: Bicycle collision results in serious injuries / Unconfirmed human remains discovered in Lunenburg

Near noon on July 26, a 47-year-old man who was cycling in Northern Cape Breton lost control of his bicycle and was involved in a serious collision. This occurred on White Point Rd., which is a steep hill with several curves.

The man, who is from Florida, was cycling with a tour group. When he became separated from the group, they searched for him and found him to have serious injuries after he went over a steep embankment.

The man was transported to hospital in Sydney, then air lifted to hospital in Halifax for further treatment.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Unconfirmed human remains discovered in Lunenburg

On July 26, members of Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a call that indicated a worker at a construction site had made a discovery, believed to be unconfirmed human remains.

The worker was using an excavator, and while moving dirt from one area to another, located a glass jar, that appeared to have been there for a significant period of time.

The RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit is investigating this matter. RCMP Forensic Identification Services also assisted in gathering evidence at the scene.

The jar and its contents were transported to the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service for examination. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
