RCMP investigates threat complaint following ads on Kijiji
RCMP are reminding the public to take precautions when posting ads on Kijiji and other social media platforms after receiving recent reports of sellers being threatened by potential buyers.
The Nova Scotia RCMP has received a number of reports where females in the Halifax area had posted ads on Kijiji about prom dresses for sale and were subsequently contacted by a man who was interested in the prom dresses. The man, after expressing interest in the prom dresses, asked the sellers for personal information, including address and phone number, and then made threats toward the victims.
If you are posting items for sale on social media, please keep the following safety tips in mind: don’t provide potential buyers with personal information, including your address or phone number, avoid posting photos that may provide details or your identity and address, and when completing the transaction, meet in a public place where they are many people around.
