RCMP release:
RCMP officers seized cannabis and unstamped tobacco destined for Canso and arrested a man and a woman.
On February 13, Guysborough County District RCMP, with assistance from Antigonish County District RCMP and the Antigonish-Guysborough Street Crime Enforcement Unit, conducted a targeted traffic stop on a vehicle in James River. The initiative was part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, and the vehicle was believed to be returning to Canso from Ontario when it was stopped.
Officers safely arrested a man and a woman and seized a quantity of shatter, psilocybin, hashish, cannabis and cash, approximately 175,000 unstamped cigarettes, and 18 bottles of alcohol.
The 61-year-old woman and 60-year-old man, both of Hazel Hill, were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on May 27. The pair will face multiple charges for the illegal sale of cannabis and tobacco products.
The investigation is ongoing.
