Two separate collisions result in drivers facing charges

Just prior to 8:30 p.m. last evening, Halifax District RCMP responded to two collisions at the same time which resulted in drivers facing charges under the Criminal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.

The first collision involved two vehicles on Lake Major Rd in Westphal. The investigation determined that a red Chevrolet Cruze left the road and struck a silver Chevrolet Cruze, which was parked on the shoulder of the road with three occupants. The driver of the red Cruze, a 28-year-old female from Lakeview, is facing Impaired Driving related charges and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date. The occupants of both vehicles were checked by EHS and did not require medical attention.

The second collision occurred along Highway 101 on the westbound ramp of Exit 4B, after a 2012 Hyundai Elantra left the road, struck a light pole then struck the overpass before coming to a stop. The 39-year-old female driver was transported by EHS to the QEII hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As a result, she was issued a Summary Offence Ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for texting while operating a motor vehicle.

The fine for using a mobile phone or texting while operating vehicle is $237.50 in Nova Scotia with fines for second and third offences at $352.50 and $582.50, respectively
