Pictou County District RCMP and Eastern Traffic Services are on scene of a motor vehicle collision in Ponds, Pictou County.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., RCMP, Emergency Health Services, Merigomish and New Glasgow Fire Departments responded to a two-vehicle crash on Shore road in Ponds.

The head-on collision involved an SUV and a tractor trailer. The driver of the SUV, a 79-year-old man from the Thorburn area, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

Motorists are advised that all traffic on shore road will be diverted to Arbuckle road at Barney’s River Road. An RCMP collision analyst is en route to the scene and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
