Two youth arrested following theft of truck

Just after 3 a.m. this morning, Halifax District RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Holland Rd. in Fletchers Lake. A resident confronted a male entering unlocked vehicles, resulting in the male running prior to police arrival.

While responding to the complaint, an RCMP officer observed two vehicles in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, both vehicles fled from police. A vehicle matching the description of one of the suspect vehicles was observed on Fall River Rd. The vehicle, a 2003 GMC S15 truck, turned in to a driveway of a residence where the two occupants fled on foot in to nearby woods. Halifax Regional Police K-9 Unit attended and the two males, ages 16 and 17, were located and arrested nearby.

Both males are facing charges for following offences:

· Theft of a Motor Vehicle

· Trespassing at Night

· Mischief under $5000 – two counts

· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

The 17-year-old is also facing charges for Failing to Comply with Undertaking – two counts. Both males are in custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are expected to be laid.

Halifax District RCMP is asking residents to take your keys and valuables out of your vehicles and lock the doors when you get out. RCMP is also reminding residents the importance of reporting any incidents of theft from vehicles.
