It seems via Twitter there’s always some sort of networking event going on here in Halifax. Once a month there’s “Third Wednesday” which is a Halifax Tech/Media/Marketing Meetup at the Foggy Goggle from 5pm-8pm. A few months ago I went to “Twestival” which was a worldwide fundraising event in an effort to help the 72 million children in the world who don’t have the opportunity to go to school. There’s the “HFXChicks” who meet up I don’t know how often, to do god knows what (I assume to talk about me), but it’s quite popular in the city with the ladies. Over Christmas I started an impromptu “HFXmas Drinks” (pretty clever, right?) that went over quite well for the 2 hours of planning I put in to it and I’m now going to do it every year because everyone loves to get drunk at Christmas!) These are just a few of the gatherings or networking opportunities for people who are on Twitter to get together and talk, get to know each other and what they do and to put a real face to the avatar they have on their profile.

This past Wednesday I went to “Twushi v4.6” for only the second time. (If you haven’t caught on, people think it’s cute or clever to take whatever you’re doing and adding “tw” in front of it if it involves Twitter. Sushi + Twitter = Twushi). Twushi is quite a popular event in the city and I’d like to go more often but the thing is that I HATE FISH! I’m from Prince Edward Island and I’ve always been around fish, I have always tried fish, I pretty much eat it if it’s in front of me, but I HATE IT. It makes me nauseous. So, the thought of RAW fish just seems wrong to me. I’ve tried sushi before, but only veggie sushi and I always get shit on for that, but I’ve never really cared. I REALLY want to like fish because it has so many nutritional benefits and it’s much cheaper than chicken all the time, but I can’t get myself to like it, no matter how it’s cooked (or in this case, not cooked), but as of Wednesday night I’m proud to say, I tried REAL sushi for the first time. I had my regular avocado and cucumber veggie sushi and I had a Thai Beef Lemongrass dish, but I also tried a Caribbean roll that had mango on it (the selling point) and a spicy salmon roll. I wasn’t sure how this was going to go down and I was a bit scared, but to be honest, it wasn’t that bad at all. In fact, it was quite good! The only problem I had with it has to do with my own imagination about what the raw fish was doing to my belly afterward.

I’m not sure if I’m on the “sushi wagon” right now, but at least I know I can handle it and I may start going to more sushi suppers that I’m invited to down the road, but we’ll see.
