Upcoming closure of Quinpool Road for CN bridge rehabilitation

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that a large section of Quinpool Road will be closed beginning on April 1, 2019 and continuing until mid-August 2019.

The road closure is necessary to complete rehabilitation, repairs, and safety improvements to the aging CN bridge on Quinpool Road.

Through-traffic (excluding local traffic) will be closed to vehicles on Quinpool Road, between the Armdale Rotary and Connaught Avenue. No traffic will be permitted to cross Quinpool bridge.

A detour will see motorists routed (inbound) onto Chebucto Road, to Connaught Avenue, to Quinpool Road. Pedestrians and cyclists will be routed (inbound) through Armview Avenue, to Tupper Grove, to Prince Arthur Street. Outbound travel will follow the same route, in the reverse order. See detour map.

All detours will be clearly marked, however residents are encouraged to plan ahead by familiarizing themselves with the detour routes and finding alternative forms of transportation wherever possible. This could include public transit, carpooling with friends and colleagues, or registering online for the municipality’s ridematching program. Due to the closure on Quinpool Road, Halifax Transit buses that service this section of roadway will be detoured. Information regarding these bus detours is available on the municipal website.

The municipality and CN are collaborating to complete the required work in a safe and timely manner, while also minimizing the inconvenience for residents and commuters. Your patience is appreciated while this work is underway.
