Quinpool’s Quinfest
Follow the Road to Fun Then March to the HFX Wanderers Match!
The organizers of Quinpool Road’s Quinfest have teamed up with the HFX Wanderers to bring the most action packed Quinfest to date, and it all takes place on Quinpool Road. The event which takes place Saturday, September 21st from 11 am to 2 pm stretches from the corner of Beech and Quinpool to the site of the former St. Pat’s High School on both the north and south side.
The fun filled family event has many new attractions this year, including Photo Op’s with Quinpool’s ambassador Quinpool Rhoda from 11 to 11:30 am, where later, participants can pick up their free 4 X 6 colour photo at Atlantic Photo Supply. Everyone can participate in poster making and climate discussions with Schoolstirke4-climatehfx or visit the Halifax Thunderbirds professional lacrosse team tent. Quinfest will also host one of Halifax’s favourite pub bands this year, Shameless who will be playing from 12 noon to 1:15 pm. The live music portion will kick off the Halifax Wanderers March to the Match Rally, which begins at 12:30 and will be led by Quinpool Rhoda, and Halifax Wanderers mascot, Rover. All of this will take place at the former St. Pat’s site, along with the traditional offerings of food sampling, a bouncy castle and an obstacle course.
Also new this year, is the addition of Mister Twister, the former voice of Woody the Talking Tree who will be making balloon animals for the kiddies outside of Quinpool Shoe Repair; and East Peak Climbing who will be offering face painting while promoting their soon to be opened climbing gym – Halifax’s largest indoor rock climbing facility.
Visitors can visit many other destinations on Quinpool Road, they can play the Gold Fish Fishing Game with The Ikebana Shop, enjoy balloon’s, activities and prizes with Sarah and Tom, do crafts and see demonstrations with Clay Café, participate in the lolly pop pull at TD Canada Trust, or pick up their free mini bouquet at Flower Trends Florists . Carnival games will be offered at the Trail Shop, NSCECE, Halifax Vet, Subway and Sicilian Pizza.
Free food samples will be provided by some of Quinpool’s finest restaurants from 12 to 2 pm including: Dilly Dally Coffee Café, East Coast Bakery, Freeman’s, Lucky Penny Coffee Co., McDonald’s McCafe, Oxford Tap Room, Organic Earth Market, Morris East, Seasons by Atlantica Hotel Halifax, Song’s Korean Restaurant, Starbucks, Subway and Sweet Hereafter Cheesecakery,
A couple of banks will be serving up carnival favourites with RBC Royal Bank serving up snow cones; Scotiabank handing out popcorn; BMO Bank of Montreal hosting a barbecue and Gary Burrill, MLA will be offering free cotton candy.
There will also be carnival games and a slice of pizza and drink in support of Kidsport in front of Sicilian Pizza and a kid’s play area, fennel cakes, henna tattoo’s and a free barbecue at the West End Baptist Church.
The association and its members sponsor Quinfest every year as a way to show appreciation to its many customers and members of the community for supporting them”, says Karla Nicholson, Executive Director of the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association.
“Quinfest reflects the diversity of the street in terms of the different foods offered and the unique and various products and services that can be purchased throughout the year. It is our biggest event of the year. It literally has something for everyone, and we hope the community can come out and embrace it. The addition of Quinpool’s Ambassador Quinpool Rhoda teaming up with HFX Wanderers mascot, Rover participating in the March to the Match makes this year even more exciting and cements our partnership with the HFX Wanderers,” she adds.
