Yarmouth Rural RCMP has recovered the body of the 46-year-old male who went missing while boating in Gavel Lake earlier today.
At approximately 6:00 p.m. this evening, divers from the Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the body close to where the man was last seen.
A preliminary investigation has determined that the 46-year-old boater became distressed after falling into the water and was struggling to remain at the surface. A nearby citizen immediately launched his row boat and headed out to rescue the man, however the rescuer and other bystanders lost sight of him.
The RCMP wishes to thank the personnel from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and the Lake Vaughan Volunteer Fire Department who assisted with the search.
The death is not considered suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man during this extremely difficult time.
